Pima Community College's Center for Transportation Training hosted a seminar for Boy Scouts from the Catalina Council of the Boy Scouts of America on October 7, 2017.The Boy Scouts offer a merit badge series that includes a Truck Transportation badge. The seminar helps the Scouts achieve that badge.
The Scouts learned the difference between a gas and diesel engine, how trucks fit into a company's supply chain, the role of truck transportation in commerce, safety, driver's logs and federal regulations. The goal of the seminar is to introduce the Scouts to trucking transportation as a career option.
The Scouts particularly enjoy the hands-on components of the badge. The badge is rarely earned by Scouts, so the College is honored to be a part of this community transportation initiative.
The Center of Transportation Training manager, Missy Blair, shares with us, "We so enjoyed presenting this seminar to the Scouts that we all volunteered our time on a Saturday to show the Scouts what a career in trucking might look like. The Scouts left at the end of the day with smiles on their faces, and so did my instructional staff and me."
