Pacific South West Region 9 University Transportation Center (PSR) alum Gabriel Jiangbo Yu is a transportation systems modeler and data scientist at Fehr & Peers Transportation Consultants in downtown Los Angeles. He is an alum of two PSR universities, holding a masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) and a Ph.D. from UC Irvine (UCI) in Transportation Systems Engineering with a dissertation on uncertainty and information in transportation systems. Yu obtained his bachelors degree from Beijing Institute of Technology. His research and academic interests lie in descriptive and prescriptive decision analysis for improving transportation modeling practice and investment decisions.
Yu finds it fascinating to analyze transportation systems from both practical and theoretical perspectives, and his career has included both academia and industry. In the past seven years, in addition to serving as administrative, teaching, and research assistants at USC and UCI he has worked at entities such as Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Southern California Association of Governments, and California Department of Transportation.
Yu appreciates the academic, professional, and other opportunities provided by PSR and METRANS, and looks forward to collaborating more with center scholars, staff, and students. He is glad to see the joint effort between his alma maters USC and UC Irvine as part of PSR. Southern California is a microcosm of the U.S. Transportation Systems, he noted, and both PSR and METRANS provide great learning, working, and research opportunities for anyone whos interested in improving and learning about transportation.
