Two public webinars were convened to gather information from stakeholders and the community on the expected impacts of freight, and possible mitigation strategies. The VREF invites PhD students and researchers in early stages of their career (max 5 years after PhD exam) to apply for grants for short-term study visits. The invitation is continuously open until October 31st, 2017, and the study visit should be carried out before December 31st, 2017. The VREF wishes to have wide distribution of grants between universities, thus in the first half of 2017 (up to 30 June 2017) a maximum of one (1) grant will be awarded to the same home university. Thursday, October 27, 2016 marked the first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) for ZTO Express, a Chinese delivery firm that was founded 14 years ago. It raised $1.4 billion from its listing as an IPO, the largest on Wall Street this year. While attending the VREF Conference on Urban Freight 2016 in Sweden, Alison Conway, Assistant Professor, The City College of New York, was interviewed by a representative of Chalmers University of Technology. Using the city streets of Gothenburg as a back drop, Professor Conway pointed out urban freight challenges and site specific solutions that she observed in regards to safety, parking and congestion.
