The 2019 I-NUF Site Tour highlighted the role that technology plays in “moving freight smarter.” The bus tour visited both the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach to observe smart port operations in action.

The first half of the tour was at Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) to observe state-of-the art marine terminal operations.  Since the last I-NUF visit to LBCT in 2015, the terminal has opened Phase I of operations and begun construction of Phase II.  Attendees will observe both operations and construction. The second half of the tour included a vehicle-to-infrastructure demonstration of trucks at the Port of Los Angeles, an information session on the project, and the observation of trucks traveling the test path.  During the afternoon’s bus ride, the attendees were also be able to take in views of construction of the Gerald Desmond Bridge, which when completed will be both the second-tallest cable-stayed bridge and the highest vertical clearance cable-stayed bridge in the U.S.
