Yuzhe (Vincent) Ying is a first-year USC Price School Master of Planning student concentrating in transportation, and the newest member of the METRANS student team. His undergraduate background is land resource management.

Yuzhe’s interest in transportation originated while on a trip to Anchorage, Alaska. After two months working and traveling there and seeing the contrast between transportation systems in North America and his home country of China, he was inspired to dedicate his life to improving transportation systems, both in America and Asia. He believes there is a better way for cities in China to develop with less congestion and cleaner air.

Yuzhe feels most comfortable with data analysis and visualization in the planning process, but is willing to try most anything related to planning and hopes that his cross-field experience will make him more competitive and marketable in the future.

Yuzhe is thrilled with his new position at METRANS as a student correspondent, in particular because he enjoys talking to various kinds of people and hearing their stories. He finds such face to face communication helpful to both himself and others, especially in a multi-cultural city like LA. In his spare time, Yuzhe is obsessed with Chinese calligraphy, on which he has spent more than seven years. He also enjoys American talk shows and documentary films, which finds to be effective and interesting ways to know more about America.

Yuzhe can be reached at [email protected].
