Undergraduate Programs

The civil engineering majors at USC offer coursework in transportation engineering. The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department offers related coursework and degrees. At the undergraduate level, all Industrial and Systems Engineering B.S. students must complete a course in facility design and logistics, covering private industry issues in transportation.

In addition, undergraduate transportation coursework is offered in policy, planning and development through SPPD, in aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering, and in business administration.

Masters Programs

Graduates of the USC Masters Programs are prepared for employment in industry and government as well as for further advanced education.

USC offers Master’s level degree programs with transportation specialization in civil engineering, industrial and systems engineering, planning, public policy, and public administration. CSULB offers a similar program in civil engineering. CSLUB also offers the Master of Arts in Global Logistics, an outgrowth of demand for professional training in logistics and supply chain management.

Ph.D. Programs

USC programs in planning, public policy, civil engineering, and industrial and systems engineering offer the PhD with a specialization in transportation.

Graduate and professional education at the University of Southern California prepares students for leadership in research, teaching, the application of knowledge and professional practice. Excellence in graduate and professional education is critically dependent on the interaction of faculty members and students. The values that characterize these interactions include dedication to excellence, mutual respect, fairness, collegiality, honesty and integrity.

While many schools provide curricula leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree, all Doctor of Philosophy degrees are under the jurisdiction of the Graduate School. All Ph.D. candidates must meet the standards of scholarship and other regulations established by the Graduate School.

PhD degrees with emphasis in transportation are offered by the School of Policy, Planning, and Development and the Viterbi School of Engineering in the Departments of Industrial and Systems Engineering and also in the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Undergraduate Programs

The civil engineering majors at CSULB offer coursework in transportation engineering. Undergraduate programs provide opportunities to specialize in the areas of aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial-management, manufacturing, materials, and mechanical engineering.

Masters Programs

MASTER OF ARTS IN GLOBAL LOGISTICS

The Master of Arts in Global Logistics (MAGL) at CSULB combines the analytical skills of a traditional M.B.A. with a strong emphasis on logistics in a global setting. The curriculum is multi-disciplinary involving the departments of Economics, Information Systems, Management and Human Resources Management, and Public Policy and Administration. The MAGL accepts students with baccalaureate training in a wide variety of fields. The program is designed for people with several years of professional experience and does not require completion of any specific field of specialization at the undergraduate level. This thirty-unit degree program is twenty-one months in length, constructed in a lock-step format that begins with a new cohort group in September of every year.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Department of Civil Engineering, part of the CSULB College of Engineering, offers a 30-unit graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) degree.

The practice of Civil Engineering deals with constructed environments and facilities. The breadth and flexibility of the discipline of Civil Engineering encompasses planning, design, and management of public and private works, including infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, dams and water supply, and waste management systems. Integrated course work and a wide choice of electives teach the engineering principles applied to construction materials, environmental systems, geotechnical engineering, structural analysis and design, transportation systems, waste management, and water resources engineering.

MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

The MPA is offered by the Graduate Center for Public Policy and Administration. The 36-unit program is designed with a professional emphasis and a recognized need to provide students with an increased competency and perspective of the analytical and administrative processes of government. The MPA degree is sufficiently flexible that students may select a program of elective courses oriented toward a generalist program of studies, places emphasis on a staff specialization such as personnel, or permit a focus on a specific public program field such as criminal justice administration. In all cases, a common grounding in the core areas of public policy and administration is required; but beyond this, considerable freedom of choice enables students to select subjects that fit their particular backgrounds or career objectives.

The purpose of the MPA Option in Public Works Administration is to provide advanced knowledge to practitioners and pre-career students in the growing field of public works management. Course work prepares students in general public administration and specialized public works management activities, including appropriate technical subjects such as air and water pollution, water supply, waste disposal and management, energy, housing, and transportation.
