Project Objective:
Though there are many forecasts of the U.S. macroeconomy, the regional economy of Southern California, and the volume and value of trade through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, there is no extant forecast that combines all of these components into comprehensive forecasting model that links these interdependent forecasts. The goal of this research project is to develop such a model, and make the forecast data and results publicly available through a website that will be updated regularly.

Task Descriptions
The tasks and schedule are based upon a project duration of 9 months
Months 1-3: compile data sets and begin the development of the system of equations that comprise the model
Months 4-6: initial estimation and assessment of models. Incorporate newly available data and revise models
Months 7-8: write draft report and develop web page. Circulate draft report and present initial findings at regional conference for feedback
Month 9: Submit draft report and present final models and data on webpage

Milestones, Dates:
August 15, 2008 – September 14, 2009

Total Budget:
$74,299

Student Involvement:
One graduate student at 25% for 9 months

Relationship to Other Research Projects:
Related to 08-17; part of the goods movement focus area

Technology Transfer Activities:
Project report will be posted soon

Potential Benefits of the Project:
This project will develop a model that links interdependent forecasts of the U.S. macroeconomy, the regional economy of Southern California, and the volume and value of trade through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
