Project Objective:
We hope to construct an origin-destination matrix of intra- and interregional freight requirements associated with the five-county Los Angeles metropolitan area.This will require compilation of data from many overlapping and incomplete sources.Our project goal is to estimate a matrix that is spatially consistent with the origin-destination matrices used by SCAG, MTA, LADoT, and Caltrans District 7 to model regional passenger flows.

Project Abstract:
Two problems motivate this research.First, state and metropolitan transportation agencies often have difficulty assembling data on freight traffic.Second, geographic information systems remain an underutilized analytical tool in transportation planning.This project will organize freight data in a GIS format and create a freight origin-destination matrix that is consistent with Southern California planning procedures.
