Setting the StageThe Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach are projected to more than double in growth of containerized goods by 2025 to 25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The point/counterpoint question that will be addressed is "Are we ready or not ready to accommodate the projected growth?" To set the stage, the forum opened with a video featuring two fictitious and extreme alternatives. The video has been developed by CSULB's Advanced Media Productions Center and the CITT Policy & Steering Committee. One scenario describes how the Southern California goods movement industry learned from the past and how stakeholders came together to plan for growth while improving quality of life. The other scenario presents a world where the region has lost discretionary cargo to the detriment of the local economy and quality of life.
