Speaker: Dr. Kristen Monaco, California State University, Long BeachTitle: Earnings and Truck Financing Among Port Owner Operators Abstract: Using data from two data sets of truck drivers working at the San Pedro ports, we analyze wages and working conditions of drivers. We extend a prior study of port drivers by examining driver expenses in detail and use this to infer the likely costs of the truck replacement and retrofitting program proposed by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Bio: Kristen Monaco is Professor of Economics and Associate Director of the graduate program in Global Logistics at California State University, Long Beach. Her research focuses on the interaction between industrial structure and labor markets, with a particular focus on the economics of the trucking industry. PowerPoint Presentation |
