SponsorsThe METRANS Transportation Center was established in 1998 through the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) as a joint partnership of the University of Southern California and California State University, Long Beach. It is dedicated to solving metropolitan transportation problems through interdisciplinary research, education and outreach. METRANS is designated by the United States Congress as a University Transportation Center (UTC). The UTC Program is managed by the Research and Innovative Technology Administration of the US Department of Transportation (USDOT). METRANS receives funding from the USDOT with a dollar-for-dollar match from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). METRANS receives additional financial support for individual programs from local and regional transportation agencies, as well as private transportation companies. In addition, METRANS faculty receive research funding from federal and state agencies, the National Science Foundation, and other sources.
